Leadership
Dr. Angel M. Foster (she/her/hers/anything respectful) is the co-founder of The MAP. Dr. Foster is a Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa where she held the 2011-2016 Endowed Chair in Women’s Health Research. A 1996 Rhodes Scholar from Oregon, she received her DPhil in Middle Eastern studies from the University of Oxford. She received her MD from Harvard Medical School and her AM in International Policy Studies from Stanford University. She leads the Collaborative on Interdisciplinary Global Abortion Research and projects in 22 countries. Dr. Foster has published over 100 articles in peer reviewed journals and co-edited four books. She is the Editor-in-Chief of Perspectives on Sexual and Reproductive Health and from 2016-2022 served on the Board of Directors of the National Abortion Federation. The recipient of numerous awards in honors, she received the Guttmacher Institute’s 2017 Darroch Award for Excellence in Sexual and Reproductive Health Research, was awarded the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality’s (SSSS) Public Service Award in 2018, and was inducted into the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences in 2023. She is the President and co-founder of Cambridge Reproductive Health Consultants.
Maureen Paul, MD, MPH (she/her/hers) is the Medical Director of The MAP. Dr. Paul is a Board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist and received her MD from Tufts University School of Medicine and her MPH from Boston University School of Public Health. From 2012-2019, Dr. Paul served as Director of the Family Planning Division at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Biology at Harvard Medical School. Earlier in her career, she served as Medical Director at Planned Parenthood affiliates in Massachusetts, San Francisco, and New York City. Dr. Paul has published extensively in the field of family planning, including serving as chief editor for two textbooks on abortion and she has spearheaded numerous initiatives to expand the range of practitioners trained to provide abortion care. Dr. Paul has served on the National Medical Committee of Planned Parenthood Federation of America and the Board of Directors of the National Abortion Federation (NAF) and the Society of Family Planning (SFP). She is the recipient of the Christopher Tietze Humanitarian Award, NAF’s highest distinction that honors significant, lifetime contributions in the field of abortion service delivery, and the 2020 SFP Lifetime Achievement Award.
Susan Yanow, MSW (she/her/hers) is the Director of Community Engagement of The MAP. She is a co-founder of Women Help Women, an international organization that provides medication abortion services, and is the spokesperson for SASS – Self-Managed Abortion; Safe and Supported in the US. She was the co-founder and founding Executive Director of the Abortion Access Project (now Provide) and works as a consultant to several domestic and international reproductive rights and health organizations including the Later Abortion Initiative at Ibis Reproductive Health. She coordinates EASE – Expanding Abortion Services in the South.
